ABC: The Academic
Anglophone Society Journal
We are pleased to
announce that the deadline for submissions of contributions to
ABC, the journal of the Academic Anglophone Society of Romania,
has been extended to May 15. This forthcoming issue is a
jubilee edition marking ten years of publishing existence. To
celebrate this exciting occasion of ABCs 10th
anniversary, we invite provocative submissions, in the form of
articles, creative-critical essays, interviews, book reviews,
conference presentations and research projects descriptions that
seek to take Anglophone studies to a new level of enquiry across
disciplinary boundaries.
The jubilee is an
occasion to draw a line and consider developments, continuities and
new departures. Aiming to feature a wider selection of new writing
in English, in our future issues, we expect to place stronger
emphasis on unconventional insights into the practice and theory of
Creative Writing. It gives us great pleasure to preview ABCs
new feature, the academic diary, meant to record impressions of and
reflections on the cultures of the academia as experienced by the
visiting lecturer and global conference goer.
ABC
is an international, peer-reviewed journal that seeks to explore
cross-disciplinary developments in Anglophone Studies in the
changing environment forged by digital media, advanced technologies
and global knowledge. Our primary goal is to contribute fresh angles
to the academic subject of English by promoting shape-changing
research across conventional boundaries. As well as providing
innovative approaches to influential crosscurrents in current
thinking, the journal sets out to connect work by scholars
conducting advanced research in the theoretical humanities. Within
the proposed range of diversity, our major scope is to provide close
examinations and lucid analyses of the role and future of the
academic institutions at the cutting edge of high-tech. With its
wide subject range, ABC aims to become one of the
premium electronic journals resources of Romanian academia.
With this end in view, we especially
invite contributions in the fields of Comparative Literary and
Cultural Studies, Postcolonial Theory, Social and Political Science,
Cultural Anthropology, Area Studies, Multimedia and Digital Arts.
Guidelines for
Contributors:
ABC seeks quality submissions of work in
the entire spectrum of the humanities.
The review process is blind: articles are sent out to
subject specialists for reviewing anonymously and we leave it up to
the reviewers to choose whether or not to reveal themselves to you.
You are strongly encouraged to submit
exciting and broad-ranging original articles that have not been
published elsewhere, nor are currently under review in any other
refereed journal. We regret we are unable to accept multiple
submissions. You may submit papers that have been presented in
conferences only if the papers have been thoroughly revised or
extended to engage a theme that fits the ABC profile. A chief
objective of the journal is to minimise the time for paper
processing and to expedite printing; therefore, electronic
submission of papers in final form is strongly recommended. Please
email your contribution to
abc.journal@ulbsibiu.ro
before the closing date.
Alternatively, manuscripts should be sent in triplicate to the
Editorial Office (see address below) as hard copy and on CD Rom.
Submit three copies of your double-spaced, single-sided
manuscript, along with the originals of illustrations, drawings,
and tables. The first page of the manuscript should carry the title,
names of authors, institutional affiliations, a brief but detailed
200-word abstract, and ten key words/concepts. The
normal word-limit for articles is 7500 words including notes.
Please include a brief 200-word
biography for our Notes on Contributors along with contact
information. Only the materials styled according to the
latest (6th) edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers
of Research Papers will be considered for publication. For detailed
instructions for preparing your contribution and a sense of
format, topics of interest to us and targeted audience,
you may wish to consult the journal's previous issues and
style files at
http://abcjournal.ulbsibiu.ro. Contributions can include
articles, in-depth interviews with both established and emerging
thinkers and writers, notes on groundbreaking research, reviews of
recently published fiction and reference works. Tables of
contents and sample full text articles can be viewed without a
subscription and our search feature is publicly available. Please
email us
if you have any queries. Questions about content should be directed
to
adriananeagu@lett.ubbcluj.ro.
Deadlines for
Submissions: ABC is published biannually in December and
June. The deadlines for submission of contributions are
October 15
for the winter edition (expected publication: December 15)
and April 15 for the summer edition (expected publication:
June 15).
Special
Issues
Suggestions for special issues are welcome. To propose a special
issue, a two-page proposal should be submitted to Adriana Neagu,
Advisory Editor, containing the following information: title;
purpose; scope; a list of prospective contributors; time-table
(submission and review deadlines, intended publication date); and
guest editor's address, phone, fax, and e-mail address. Once
approved, the guest editor will be fully responsible for the special
issue and should follow the normal review procedure of this journal.
Simple proposals of theme(s) without guest-editing commitment are
also welcome and will be given due consideration. Please attach
these to your contributions and email to
adriananeagu@lett.ubbcluj.ro.

CALL FOR PAPERS:
INTERNATIONAL ANGLOPHONE THEATRE
The Academic Anglophone Society of Romania invites contributions for
a forthcoming Special Issue of its periodical ABC on the
topic of "International Anglophone Theatre."
The contemporary world theatrical canon includes many examples of
Anglophone playwriting by playwrights with connections beyond
Anglophone countries; and of non-Anglophone texts in English
translation and adaptation. Recent examples include RocknRoll, the
epic examination of twentieth-century Czech history by Czech-British
playwright Sir Tom Stoppard, directed, in Romanian translation, by
Andrei Serban; the international hit Waxing West, a play in English
by New York-based Romanian playwright Saviana Stanescu; the current
Broadway revival of British playwright Christopher Hamptons Les
Liaisons Dangereuses, adapted from the French novel by Choderlos de
Laclos; and Nigerian-British playwright Biyi Bandele-Thomass
Oronooko, adapted from the novel by Aphra Behn.
How do these cross-currents between languages, cultures, and
theatrical and literary decisions expand the canon of Anglophone
drama? What traditions or concerns presently exist in "Anglophone"
theatre, distinct from the theatrical traditions of specific
Anglophone countries or cities? How does movement between different
languages, perspectives, and audiences change the adapted,
translated, or produced text? And to which contemporary
international Anglophone playwrights, translators, and theatre
companies should the world theatre community pay closer attention?
These are a few of the questions that the Special Issue in
Anglophone European Theatre may consider.
We seek:
Research articles
Theatre and Performance reviews
Script extracts from original plays by European authors, in
English or in English translation
Interviews with theatre practitioners and/or theorists
relevant to the following topics:
Anglophone playwrights contemporary and earlier - in an
international context
Plays in English translation
English-Language plays in translation
Cross-currents in Anglophone and non-Anglophone theatre
Please ELECTRONICALLY submit articles, interviews, and script
extracts, by 1 September 2008, to:
Rebecca Nesvet
Lecturer in Creative Writing
Humanities, University of Gloucestershire
at: rnesvet@glos.ac.uk
and copied to:
upstart_crow2@yahoo.com with ABC SUBMISSION in the subject-line.
